Other Common Processes
Stress Relieving is a treatment method aimed at homogenizing the microstructure and alleviating residual stresses to achieve the desired mechanical properties, enhance durability, and ensure the steel's resilience to daily wear and tear. In heat treatment stress relief, the metal is heated below its critical range, typically around 650°C (1202°F) for steel, approximately 75°C (165°F) below the transformation temperature of 727°C (1340°F). This process is exclusively designed to eliminate internal stresses.
Nitriding, on the other hand, is a heat treatment process that diffuses nitrogen into the metal's surface, creating a case-hardened layer. It is commonly applied to low-alloy steels and extends to metals like titanium, aluminum, and molybdenum.
Shot Peening significantly extends the fatigue life of metal parts by improving their resistance to corrosion, erosion, stress corrosion cracking, foreign object damage, and fretting fatigue, while simultaneously enhancing the surface's wear resistance.

Common shot peening methods include Wheel Blasting, Air Blasting, and Flapper Peening.
In contrast, laser peening has demonstrated the ability to impart compressive residual stresses up to ten times deeper than what can be achieved with shot peening. Laser peening is cost prohibitive for most applications when compared to Shot Peening.
Corrosion Protection
Corrosion Protection is vital for product longevity, and at WCS, we offer a range of protective plating options. WCS's network of experts in the field of corrosion protection ensures your product is ready for production.
Protective coatings act as a barrier between the substrate and environmental factors, safeguarding against corrosion, abrasion, and weathering. These coatings function by blocking external elements to prevent the initiation of the corrosion process, inhibiting the electrochemical reaction, or redirecting the corrosion process away from the asset.
Common coating types include Barrier, Sacrificial, Inhibitive, and Anti-fouling coatings, which can be composed of materials such as polymers, ceramics, zinc, aluminum, epoxies, polyurethanes, and chromium.
